Capt. Nemo's Communications - Audio Services
How It Works
Preparation
You
begin by filling out the Web request form, describing your project, any
special instructions, and giving the urls for the pages to be done. We
study the pages to locate any problem areas or questions and send an
email with observations and questions. Further discussions are done by
email if necessary.
Recording
and Editing
Then
we record the segments. Longer narrations are usually done in several
takes and edited together. The recordings are edited to remove glitches
or errors. If there are problems, the recording is re-done until it's
right. Then we tighten it up (shorten it) by removing long pauses, some
breath noises and so forth.
Compression
If
your application calls for raw WAV files the compression step is
skipped. For Web page narrations, we compress using voice optimized mp3
compression at 24 or 32 kbps. These bitrates will stream over a 56k
modem so anyone can listen to your webpages.
Delivery
The
sound files are then delivered to you. They can be emailed but some
files are too large for efficient emailing. Instead, we send you an
email containing links you can click that will cause your browser to
download the files directly from our web server to your desktop. When
we deliver files using the web server, we put them up as zip files.
There are two reasons for this: 1) A few larger zip files are easier to
handle a lot of small mp3's. 2) If the files were placed on the server
as mp3's, your browser would attempt to play the files rather than
download them. Zipping the files solves the problem.
Thank you!
