Pointers
If your material contains unusual words or
acronyms that must be pronounced in a certain way, please tell us. For
example, U.S. Military material is full of acronyms that must be
pronounced in specific ways. For example, the acronym for the Commander
in Chief of the Pacific Fleet is CINCPAC and is pronounced "sink-pak".
In the field of computers there is a database programming language
called SQL (Structured Query Language). Some people prefer to spell out
"S-Q-L" while others say "sequel". Please let us know in advance of
your preferences.
Our voiceover artist will adjust his tone of
voice to what is appropriate for the material. If you have a preference
please tell us. We can present material in a tone ranging from upbeat
and dynamic to dull and flat. The appropriate tone is usually obvious
from the nature of the material but if you have a preference, let us
know.
Some minor changes in the text are sometimes
necessary because what works in print doesn't always work when spoken.
We usually correct these problems on the fly. A common problem is the
following:
The Antelope of Wyoming
The antelope of Wyoming are usually found in the...
An
exact word-for-word reading of this sounds clumsy. There are two ways
to fix it: We can simply skip the title line and get right into the
paragraph. This method is fine unless the writer is trying to make a
series of sharply defined points by means of the titles. If this is the
case, we can take the "conversational" approach and deliver it as:
OK. Now we're going to discuss the antelope of Wyoming <pause>
The antelope of Wyoming are usually found in the...
Either
way works and we will make these small changes for you automatically
unless you have a different solution.
Our Qualifications
We have people on staff who have been doing
narrations and announcing for over 30 years. We are familiar with the
proper pronunciation of technical terms from the fields of engineering,
chemistry, physics, medicine, and astronomy as well as Latin terms. If
there is any doubt as to pronunciation, we'll ask you.
